in honor of all that he did today he proposes no toast and neither do they but that's how it goes when there's posters of men on the moon on the wall and you are a joke saw him climbing up the ladder leaned against their house stunning just to see him mouthing everything you see is yours see him standing up there arms against his sides sun rising behind him everyone is gone he lays the stone down softly locked out of houses god-damning some lottery scratching an itch in your phone grinding it down to a gravel with paver stones cutting your legs off and shoving it up in the bones if things don't work out the way I imagined it tell the kids I went out taking on a feral dog trying to catch a bullet in my teeth or I flipped the fuckin car just tell them that I died he looks down from the rooftop at the sidewalk with a look of bewilderment behind his eyes believes in himself and his chosen vocation nothing's really wrong but concrete only on his mind
